Kenya delegation to join Smarter Mobility Africa 2025 in partnership with GIZ Kenya

by maurisha

Smarter Mobility Africa (SMA) is pleased to announce the return of its partnership with GIZ Kenya’s Promotion of E-mobility project, which will facilitate the participation of a high-level Kenyan delegation at SMA 2025, taking place from 30 September to 2 October at the Sandton Convention Centre in Johannesburg.

The delegation will feature senior representatives from Nairobi City County, the Ministry of Roads & Transport, the Ministry of Energy & Petroleum, the Energy & Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA), and Kenya Power & Lighting Company (KPLC). Together, they bring a wealth of experience in policy, energy, and mobility, positioning Kenya as one of Africa’s leading voices in the e-mobility transition.

Kenya has rapidly emerged as an e-mobility hub on the continent, advancing local manufacturing of electric motorcycles and buses, pioneering policy frameworks, and driving early adoption of clean transport technologies. Companies like Roam and BasiGo are setting benchmarks in manufacturing, while national policy has created an enabling environment for large-scale adoption and investment.

At SMA 2025, the Kenyan delegation will share insights on charging infrastructure, grid integration, and regulatory standards; showcase national and local progress on clean mobility; and engage in dialogues around regional collaboration, skills development, and job creation.

“This summit is a meeting place for African cities working hard to improve how we move people and goods,” said Ben Pullen, group director for Mobility at VUKA Group. “Sharing knowledge, plans, and projects is essential to accelerating progress – and Kenya’s participation strengthens this exchange.”

Michael Schuster, Team Lead Sustainable Mobility at GIZ Kenya, added, “Kenya is positioning itself as a leader in Africa’s e-mobility transition. At SMA 2025, we look forward to showcasing Kenya’s progress while learning from our peers across the continent.”
