Global African Hydrogen Summit to Unite Leaders and Accelerate Decarbonisation Across Africa

The Global African Hydrogen Summit 2025 in Namibia will unite leaders to accelerate decarbonisation of heavy industries, drive green hydrogen innovation, and reshape Africa’s industrial future.

The Global African Hydrogen Summit (GAH2S) is set to convene African and international leaders this September in Windhoek to fast-track the decarbonisation of hard-to-abate industries and accelerate Africa’s green industrial revolution.

By leveraging Africa’s extraordinary abundance of renewable energy resources — from solar and wind to hydro and geothermal — and collaborating with global innovators, the continent is positioning itself as a leader in climate-smart growth and sustainable industrialisation.

Africa’s Green Advantage

Africa holds some of the world’s most significant untapped renewable potential, with robust solar irradiation, wind corridors, geothermal fields, and vast mineral reserves. These natural endowments, combined with hydrogen innovation hubs, create an unparalleled opportunity to leapfrog traditional carbon-intensive development models.

International technology transfer will play a vital role in this transition, bringing advanced know-how, capacity building, and scalable clean energy solutions.

$12.5bn Climate Investment Fund to Support Industrial Decarbonisation

Seven countries, including Namibia, South Africa, and Egypt, will benefit from a new $12.5 billion Climate Investment Fund (CIF) programme. With concessional loans of up to $250 million each, the initiative aims to cut emissions from heavy industry while attracting private-sector and multilateral development financing.

“The global race to decarbonise industry has begun, and emerging markets are out front,” said Tariye Gbadegesin, CEO of the CIF.

Namibia’s Green Hydrogen Vision

In an exclusive interview ahead of the Summit, Hon. Gaudentia Kröhne, Namibia’s Deputy Minister of Industries, Mines and Energy, outlined the country’s ambitions to become Africa’s green hydrogen leader.

“Namibia is not just aiming to export green hydrogen, but to create value-added products such as green ammonia and green iron, supporting global decarbonisation while building new clean industrial clusters domestically,” she said.

International Partnerships Driving Progress

The Summit, themed “Ambition in Action: Fuelling Africa’s Green Industrial Revolution”, will highlight breakthrough technologies reshaping energy-intensive sectors such as cement, steel, chemicals, and transport.

International collaboration is central to this momentum:

  • China and Japan are sharing expertise in solar PV manufacturing, hydrogen storage, and fuel cell innovation.
  • Europe is supporting with wind energy integration, policy frameworks, and renewable grids.
  • Private sector leaders such as Bosch are investing heavily in hydrogen engines, infrastructure, and electrolysers to enable large-scale adoption.

“Africa’s mineral reserves provide a solid foundation for an energy revolution,” said Dr Ziyuan Wang, Vice Chairman of CHAG. “This enables localisation and self-sufficiency of the hydrogen value chain.”

Nigeria’s Energy Transition

Hydrogen is also central to Nigeria’s national energy strategy. Sokeipirim Soberekon, Technical Adviser to the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Gas), emphasised that Nigeria is “laying the regulatory foundation for an energy future that is fair, responsible and resilient for prosperity.”

A Blueprint for Africa’s Green Revolution

The Summit will host over 1,500 participants including heads of state, ministers, investors, project developers, and global technologists. With more than 50 bankable African energy projects, international exhibitors, and multiple high-level roundtables, the event is set to drive significant investment into Africa’s hydrogen future.

“This is more than a pathway to decarbonisation,” said Dr Markus Thill, President, Region Africa, Bosch Group. “It is a blueprint for Africa’s industrial transformation.”
